Thats yesterdays news. #French Women don`t get fat. #Mireille Guilianos` book came out several years ago and went into depth about all the ways we could defy our genes, not the denim bootcut variety, but to be svelte paragons of virtue. Then following that, the highly successfull diet and lifestyle regime, came from accross the channel - #Lebootcamp, the most recent spinoff from that wave, invented by the Corsican #Valerie Orsoniand, and incredibly now has 1.2 million followers and counting. (Well she does include chocolate and red wine in her list of `yummy nutrition`, so what do you expect.) How can you go wrong!
The tide has turned and its not much to do with La tunnel, more a general movement towards being "real women" whatever they are. We are now living in a culture more obsessed with trying to define ourselves, than actually "being".

One day we are worrying about that very French habit of shoe bag and hat matching, because thats 'the kind of person' we are, the next we think its rubbish to bother with make up, changing out of tracksuit bottoms and looking like weve just got out of bed, not because theres anything wrong in that, its just we like to make everyone aware that thats the look we are trying to achieve; Oh do I look a mess? I dont really care, because im that kind of person. Thats who I am. Back to the title. Ingrained in their psyche from day dot, French girls are

1. In the main not subjected to fast food of any kind, with the exception of pizza which is a national obsession. 2. Brought up to eat 'en famille' (with all the family), all those well balanced, highly nutritious, home made, 3 course, small portion, back garden producing meals. 3. Had the subject of good food well and truly rammed down their throats; have you ever been to a dinner party/ been on a train/ or been in a supermarket queue and overheard a crazy animated conversation that can last up to an hour about a mushroom!

Anyway, good for them I say, Id rather be a pear than a cucumber any day, because thats the kind of person I am.
